October is such an exciting time of year; the leaves are changing, school is really rolling and Halloween is right around the corner! Homemade Halloween costumes are so special to the little ones in our lives and they create great memories for everyone involved. So many of us remember going to the fabric store with our moms to pick out materials for what we were going to be that year, and most of us can even recall little details of certain costumes we wore, like a special pirate sword or pretty fairy wings

All four of these kits are made with our stunning 100% wool felt which is super easy to work with (and a huge time saver) because you don't need to hem the edges. Because they are made with such great materials these costumes will stand the test of time. They can be passed down to younger siblings or stashed in the dress up box for years of enjoyment.

These costumes include sizing instructions to fit most children from ages 3-8.

This is a great classic costume, it brings to mind lots of magical imagery, like the trees that throw the apples in The Wizard of Oz, and JRR Tolkein's tall, strong Ents.

The Tree King Costume Kits come in two versions, the verdant Spring Tree King, and the seasonally appropriate Fall Tree King. The kits include everything you will need to make the tree trunk, leaves, crown and wrist bands as well as a complete instructions and full size templates for cutting out all of the different shapes. These costumes will fit most children from ages 3-7.

Lovely Tutorial from the Tooth Fairy

As I anticipate the coming of SPRING!! - (wish, wish - my fingers are crossed) -

Also in our family are all sorts of renewals.

I have many nieces and nephews, now many are approaching the "Tooth Fairy" age.

What a cool time in a child's life! Personally, I can remember constantly wiggling that tooth loose just to get all the coins from the Tooth Fairy!

So I wanted to just post a tutorial from one of my favorite spots: Purlbee!

Here's a great and colorful way to help the Tooth Fairy find that loose tooth - and also a great way to keep all those coins, as well.

Here's the finished pieces (above) and they are just so darn cute that I just can't believe it!

So simple to make as well. It's a truly easy project, no sewing machine is even required; just a few stitches here and there and it's done!

Personally, I hope the kids don't start pulling out their teeth like I did... I'm trying to buy some time to get all my felt supplies to make a few of these bags!

This is such a wonderful idea for pre-schoolers and you know, keeping the design simple is good, but if you lived in my house, you'd know that we'd have to jazzy up the bag with a bit of Fairy Dust. :D

Why not give someone a "HANDMADE" Valentine once again?

Remember those days in elementary school where we glued and cut our way into someone's heart? What's stopping us now?

Why must we rely on others for giving the love that we feel in our hearts?

Well, I know that smelting gold is difficult but I'll accept one of these pins in leu of gold;

because these hearts are just wonderful!

I know, I'm getting carried away with the Purlbee.com but I have to say, they are just fabulous!

These are the most amazing colors that I've ever seen and

I just can't get enough of all the items that can be created with all these supplies at one's fingertips.

I just wonder, how much damage I could possibly do to my credit card if I actually entered their brick & mortar; because I KNOW what damage I've done just by the click of my mouse.

Colorful Garlin tutorial...

As I was browsing on the web, I stopped by one of my FAV blogs - The Purlbee.

It's a great place to stop by, get ideas; and check out what's going on in NYC!

The Purlbee, is the blog of Purlsoho. A wonderful shoppe filled with colorful wools, cotton threads; and simply joyful fabrics - I've purchased wool from them on SEVERAL occasions and they've always been warm and gracious; just what a customer likes. ; )

But on this day of browsing and sneezing, I came across this terrific garlin that I just wanted to share.

They have this wonderful category, Molly's Sketchbook - where there are tutorials of all types for all skill levels: in crocheting, knitting, embroidery too!

This one caught my eye because I received this same type of garlin as a gift for Christmas!!

This one, created by Molly, is so much more colorful and just so much FUN.

Great idea for kids and if you wanted to change up for the Various Holidays... cut out shapes, ie, hearts or shamrocks!

Below, is my version of the Felt Garlin - a free gift from Anthropologie - it's a bit different from Molly's but the difference is something that makes it versatile... rather than glueing two pieces of felt together... it uses a parallel cut in the center of the circle to thread the cotton twine. Here (below), cording was used rather than a heavier twine - same cording used in fleece hoodies!

I'm going to try the colorful version for the Spring!! It will look just adorable on my tinsel tree! Check out Purlbee... it's just fabo!! :D
