Although the weather outside is rainy and pretty miserable, I received a really great item in the mail today.
A week ago, I read about this wonderful organization Bead for Life. Bead for Life is a non profit organization providing impoverished Ugandan women an opportunity to lift their families out of poverty by making beaded jewelry out of recycled paper.

For a brief history: Bead for Life began with an encounter between a Ugandan woman, who was rolling beads near her mud home, and the founders. The women learned that there wasn't a market for her jewelry and that the Ugandan woman worked for a dollar a day in a rock quarry. They admired the beads and bought a few.
When friends in the States admired the beads, the women realized that there might very well be a market here.

I must say that my three strand necklace is a really lovely color of turquoise and I will be wearing it with great pride.
Check out the website just to see some of the marvelous things these women are accomplishing! :D
